Would you believe you can find one of the most versatile craft supplies at the hardware store? And, no, it?s not one of the obvious things like glue or paint. We?re talking about a painter?s drop cloth.
I first discovered how many things you could do with a drop cloth on the Lowe?s?website. But a little more digging around the Internet revealed just how useful drop cloths could be.
They?re great for decorating projects around the house:
- As slipcovers. Looking to transform a room from stuffy and formal to casual and comfortable? Don?t waste a bunch of money buying all new furniture. Instead recover the furniture you already have using drop cloths. They make easy-clean coverings for sofas?and chairs.
- Or for pillows. Wanting to go casual, but not that casual? Then use the drop cloth to make throw pillows. Add a little paint or fabric for color, and you have the perfect accent.
- And as curtains. For both inside?and outside.
A drop cloth is also great for making practical items:
- Like a tote bag. This blogger calls her creation a purse. It looks more like a tote bag to me, but either way it?s a great idea.
- Or a table runner. Country Living has a great idea for a fun table runner, and all you need is a drop cloth and a little paint.
- Or as Christmas decorations. I loved this blogger?s use of a drop cloth to make Christmas trees?and garland?to create a festive look at home. Drop cloths can even be the base for stockings?hung from the mantle.
What?s your favorite unexpected craft supply?
