Significance of Domain Name Hosting in Magnifying your Online ...

The development of secured payment gateways and payment protection agencies clubbed with the enhancements made in the world of website development has made the web a remarkably profitable platform for businesses from a large number of domains. In order to benefit from the internet by reaching out to target customers regardless of their geographic locations, companies need to have a reliable and efficient online presence. Now, even though there are various ways to establish online presence such as social media, blogs, and the like, websites continue to be the most sought after solution used by organizations to market their products and services.

Although almost every business trying to leverage on the globalization of the web understands the potential it holds; however, not many are fully aware about the criticality of the role played by the Domain name hosting platform in deciding the overall efficacy of their websites. Unaware of this pivotal factor, many of us fall victims to the false marketing claims of domain name registrars and end up staying deprived of the benefits the internet holds for them. Hence, in addition to registering suitable Domain names ensuring a reliable hosting platform is another major factor when creating websites.

The advancements made in the technology world have given birth to a large number of online tools and applications that businesses may use to enhance the efficacy of their websites; however, most online tools and applications require a stable and efficient hosting platform to perform up to their optimum efficiencies, making it safe to say that the efficiency of the hosting platform has a direct impact on the overall performance of a website. This is the reason companies looking to get the most out of the internet world end up making huge investments in order to secure a reliable domain name hosting platform.

Thanks to the option of sourcing the need to places such as India, China and other upcoming names in the technology domain, organizations looking for a reliable domain name hosting platform can greatly marginalize the expenses involved. By letting a competent provider from the stated destinations take care of your web hosting needs, you will be able to save a substantial amount of money, which of course can be used for financing other requisites of your business. However, before trusting any of the contenders with hosting your domain names, always refer to the client testimonials received by the firm.

Indie game makers: Different paths to same goal

1 hr.

In the heart of the sprawling PAX East show floor, surrounded by gigantic booths representing all the movers and shakers from the world of mainstream gaming, was a comparatively modest cluster of independent game makers showing off their wares. But for many, it was where the real action was.

For those who weren't keen on standing in line for literally four hours to play just a few minutes of "Borderland 2," the wait was much briefer for "Skull of the Shogun" and "Super Time Force." Yet there was still a wait.

While the former is the latest from Jake Kazdal and his studio, Haunted Temple Studios, the latter is the most recent game from Nathan Vella and his outfit, Capybara Games. Both have traveled different paths to make games -- for themselves.

KAZDAL: MAKING "SELFISH" GAMES

"Skull of the Shogun" is the first offering from Kazdal's studio. It's a turn-based strategy game that has a decidedly action-oriented, very arcade-like feel. The action has the immediacy of a fighting game -- yet also shares many elements found in real time strategy titles -- but without the grid or all the cumbersome menus.

It's basically the kind of game that Kazdal has long wanted. Despite being a fan of the genre -- including games such a "Shining Force" and "Advance Wars" -- he has "very little tolerance" for the detailed tactical systems that are a staple of the genre, which take him "out of the zone" -- which is why everything is so streamlined and simplified.

"People aren't making the kinds of games I want to play anymore," Kazdal explains. "I've lost all interest in the big budget 3D games, they're all the same. Guess I just don't like realistic games, I think? I'm more of an artsy sort of guy."

Kazdal is no stranger to the business of making games. He's best known as being the lone American to work on "Rez," one of the first titles to seriously spark discussion among those who believe games are a medium of artistic expression, and which has been an inspiration for countless game designers since, mostly in the indie space.

After spending years after that as an art director for many big budget studios, three years ago Kazdal decided to take a stab at making games on his own terms. Kazdal is upfront about "Skull of the Shogun" being a "selfish game."

And that's because no one else is making the games he would like. Why is that? "Because games can produce awesome 3-D visuals, why would anyone want to buy a 2-D game with awesome hand drawn art?" Kazdal responds, somewhat tongue-in-cheek. ?I believe otherwise.?

VELLA: FILMMAKER TO GAME MAKER

Then there's Vella, a certified veteran of the indie space. But the road he has traveled, the one that led to the formation of his own studio, Capy Games, is quite the contrast to Kazdal's journey.

Vella went to film school and had aspirations to be a video editor, but quickly found out it wasn't for him. His friends at the time, whom he bonded with over booze and video games, were in similar ruts. Eventually they heard about the Game Developers Conference, and decided to go on a 52-hour car drive from Toronto to San Francisco. Discovering another side of the game making world, indies -- not just the big names -- changed their lives.

"Making movies was the closest thing to making games at the time," he said. So Vella and friends formed a company, Capybara Games,?to make games. Their first big hit was an original title, "Critter Crunch," but they mostly did work for hire.

Despite being an independent outfit, Capy initially operated much like other studios. And in the process, they ran themselves ragged. Vella said, "We thought it was the right move: get a contract, make a game, get another contract? But then our friends from Toronto Jonathan Mak made 'Everyday Shooter' and Raigan Burns made 'N+.'"

These intensely personal journeys yielded great financial success. The first was a high profile acquisition by Sony, which was building its PSN catalogue for the then-debuting PS3, and the second was the first indie hit on Xbox Live. And both games, along with similar success stories at time, also among friends, turned on a light bulb.

"These were our friends, making beautiful, important games, and they're doing better than us?" recalls Vella. "How do you look a friend in the eyes, who's making 'Everyday Shooter' and you're making 'Pirates of the Caribbean?' We seriously felt shame. They're doing so much more of value and we need to do that."

Since then, Vella and his team have made quite a name for themselves. Their most recent, noteworthy game was the critically acclaimed iOS hit "Sword & Sworcery." And PAX East was the first time the public got their hands on the upcoming?"Super Time Force."

Taking cues from classic 16-bit runs and guns like "Gunstar Heroes" and "Contra: Hard Corps," Capy's latest also adds space and time to the mix. When a player dies, he or she assumes not only another life, but all the actions from the previous playthrough repeat. The end result is a single player, multiplayer affair.

Not only is dying encouraged, but because of the several different characters to choose from, there's plenty of strategy gained from knowing when and where to bite the bullet. Vella explains they're still trying to balance things out, but theoretically, gamers can have hundreds of iterations, all playing in unison.

Given the widespread success of Vella's games, does he still consider himself an indie game maker? "I don't even know what indie games mean anymore and I don't care." With an attitude much like Kazdall, he said, "We make stuff we want to make."

HOW INDIES VIEW LARGE PUBLISHERS?

The one thing these indies don't see eye to eye on are the big guys that surround them.

When asked about the relationship between the mainstream and indie game landscapes, Kazdal responded, "If you walk to [mainstream] creators, they love the indie stuff, but the CEOs could give a crap about the indie game movement. They have their own things going on, they have their big budgets, their big numbers to hit. It's a very different world."

Meanwhile, Vella still has love for what the larger publishers are still putting out. "I definitely don't want to see AAA developers go away," he said, in response to what he hopes the future of game development might be like 10 years from now. "I love 'Street Fighter,' I love 'Uncharted'? They mean a lot to the culture of games."

Vella also sees independent game development becoming more pervasive.

"Plenty of folks are moving from AAA to iOS," he said. "Sure there are money blinders guiding them, but because so many big studios are closing down, the next step obviously for many has been to go 'F*** it, time to make my own game.'"

YouTube gives live video streamers better production tools, ways to make money
It's been about a year since YouTube took the beta tag off of its live video streams and to celebrate it's flipping the switch on a few new features. One major way to pull in better content is to allow its publishers to profit from it, and now they can either by charging viewers pay-per-view-style or through instream ads. On the backend they have improvements like a guided flow to follow before events go live and real time data breaking down their viewership by geography and format. Finally, Google is also provided Wirecast for YouTube Live free of charge, a bit of software that it says allows partners to do all the production (capture, switching between sources, live effects and overlays and more) necessary for "professional looking" live events. There's more information available after the break, but as long as this means we never have to see another jump cut vlog then we're all for it.

Impact of climate change on forest diseases assessed

ScienceDaily (Apr. 10, 2012) ? Climate change is projected to have far-reaching environmental impacts both domestically and abroad. A recently published report by the USDA Forest Service's Pacific Southwest Research Station (PSW) examines the impact of climate change on forest diseases and how these pathogens will ultimately affect forest ecosystems in the Western United States and Canada.

Drawing on a large body of published research, the report details the effects of eight forest diseases under two climate-change scenarios -- warmer and drier conditions, and warmer and wetter conditions. Forest diseases discussed in the report include foliar diseases, Phytophthora diseases (such as sudden oak death), stem rusts, canker diseases, dwarf mistletoes, root diseases, and yellow-cedar decline. The likelihood and consequences of increased mortality to forests from each disease as a result of climate change were analyzed and assigned a risk value of high, moderate, or low. The risk value is based on available biological information and subjective judgment.

Key findings include:

  • Armillaria root disease is projected to result in the greatest risk under drought (warmer and drier) conditions. Armillaria is common on conifers and some hardwoods; it lives on tree roots and grows exponentially when a tree becomes stressed. Yellow-cedar decline, Cytospora canker on Aspen and dwarf mistletoes also pose high risk under drought conditions.
  • Sudden oak death and other Phytophthora tree diseases are likely to be most damaging under wetter and warmer conditions. These deadly pathogens reproduce and spread quickly under favorable moist and warm conditions.

Although the report's results suggest that climate change will affect forest health, uncertainty exists regarding the degree of climate change that will occur; pathogen biology under changing climate; the effects of changing climate directly on the host; and the interactions between the pathogen, host, and climate.

"Tree diseases shape our forests," says Susan Frankel, the report's project leader and a PSW plant pathologist. "This assessment explains fundamental relationships between trees diseases and climate that will help people determine how local conditions may influence tree survival."

Funded by the USDA Forest Service's Western Wildland Environmental Threat Assessment Center and the Pacific Southwest Research Station, the risk assessment was conducted as part of the Climate Change and Western Forest Diseases initiative.

How to grow and serve kumquats

A gardener and a chef team up with advice on growing and serving kumquats.

By Anne K. Moore and Linda Weiss / April 9, 2012

This past December, I (Anne Moore, a gardener) harvested my first fruit from a seed-grown tree. It's a very unattractive tree. It is somewhat leafy at the bottom on the original growth. This past summer it decided to shoot up a trunk with leaves and one little fruit at the top of its four feet. Somehow, I missed the flowering phase.

The tree (and I use the term loosely) is at least 10 years old. It grows in part shade in a very infertile area. It has been evergreen its whole life and maybe if I paid more attention to it, it would be an attractive little tree. It has developed very long, wicked thorns all along its trunk. The fruit is very small, all seeds, with a smooth citrus-flavored sweet skin, just like a kumquat with no pulp.

Grow indoors or outside

Kumquats, even though they appear to be citrus, were moved to the genus Fortunella in 1915, according to Purdue University. If you purchase a young grafted tree, you won?t have to wait ten years or more for it to bear fruit and the fruit will be edible.

If you live in USDA Zones 8-9 (sheltered spot in zone 7), you can plant it outdoors in a sunny spot. Otherwise, grow it in a sunny window indoors and full sun outdoors during the summer months. The roots should never dry out but they also cannot be in standing water. Use a slow-release fertilizer.

To raise the humidity indoors, mist it daily or raise it up on pebbles in a saucer of water. You can enjoy these little "oranges" as decorations or in recipes, like the one from Linda, next.

Kumquats, a childhood favorite

As a small child, I (Linda Weiss, a chef) loved kumquats. My grandmother could never understand why I liked the citrusy, sweet rind, that held bitter flesh, and I can hear her saying, just like yesterday, ?of all things,? as I picked up a kumquat and took two bites to finish it.

Fast forward to almost 60 years later, and I still like them -- except that I eat them a couple of different ways now, but mostly preserved. The preserving of kumquats is easy, and you will be surprised at what a fresh flavor this tiny little orange fruit can bring to so many different foods, such as herb-roasted chicken, a simple piece of toast, or just a few tablespoons added to the side of a vegetable plate.

Kumquat Preserves

?2 pounds kumquats

4 cups sugar

2 lemon slices (about ? -inch thick)

4 cups water

Wash the kumquats thoroughly. Prick each one with a fork. Put them in a pan large enough to cover them with boiling water, and simmer them for 25 to 30 minutes or until they are tender. Drain.

Combine the sugar, lemon slices, and the 4 cups of water in a large saucepan. Bring to a boil and boil for 5 minutes. Add the kumquats and boil gently for 25 minutes. Remove from the heat and allow to stand, covered loosely, overnight (or all day if you start in the morning), so that the fruit will plump.

Take out the lemon slices and discard. Place the kumquat mixture back on the stove and bring to a boil.

Skim the kumquats from the syrup with a slotted spoon, and put them in hot sterilized half-pint jars. Continue to boil the syrup until it reaches 220 degrees F on a candy thermometer. This may take 8 to 10 minutes. Pour the boiling syrup over the kumquats, covering them to 1/4-inch from the top of each jar. Clean rims, and seal at once. Refrigerate or freeze. If freezing, leave one-inch space between the fruit and the top of the jar. Cool before freezing. Makes 2 to 3 pints, depending on the size of the fruit.

Jumptap: Early Days For The New iPad Show A ?Heavy? But Still Marginal Impact On Traffic

new-ipad-black-640x480.jpegThe new iPad from Apple has so far smashed all of its own sales records for previous tablet models, selling 3 million units in its opening weekend, with total sales projections for 2012 at up to 66 million. But according to some early (possibly too early?) figures from the mobile ad network Jumptap, that is not yet translating into a surge of traffic from the devices. On the opening day, the iPad represented 0.52 percent of total iPad network traffic. That figure peaked at 2.28 percent on day three, and then declined to 1.92 percent of traffic by day six. In contrast, the iPad and iPad 2 each had 45 percent or more of total iPad traffic, Jumptap says in its latest MobileSTAT Report.

Bravo plans 'Silicon Valley' reality show

(AP) ? Randi Zuckerberg, the sister of Facebook's founder, is working with Bravo on a TV show about Silicon Valley.

Bravo says "Silicon Valley" is a working title for the show, which follows young professionals in real life working to create the next big thing in tech. Going by a short preview on Bravo's website, this involves drinking, driving fast cars and bragging about money.

Bravo hasn't said when it would start running the show. But it has already gotten criticism. Sarah Lacy, a former editor with the technology blog TechCrunch, calls the show unconscionable and compares it to "Jersey Shore."

Randi Zuckerberg left Facebook last year to work on her own ventures. Mark Zuckerberg remains with the company as CEO.

Bravo is part of Comcast Corp.'s NBCUniversal division.

Finally Finalized! | Ay Mama!

When you talk about the adoption process, many words come to mind. ?Birthmother,? ?baby,? and ?travel? are just a few that most people think of. However, someone going through the adoption process pretty quickly learns the importance of another, less romantic word: paperwork.

There is a ridiculous amount of paperwork involved in adoptions, and at least twice as much in international adoptions than domestic ones. Background checks, marriage certificates, home studies, agency applications?it almost seems endless. And most of it expires after a certain period of time.

Our Kazakhstanadoption dossier alone required more than 30 pieces of paperwork, none of which could be more than 3 months old. Getting everything together and turned in to an agency in time is nothing short of a miracle, and many families have had their entire dossier ? hundreds, sometimes thousands of dollars worth of documents ? rejected because of one single piece of paperwork.?

Due to one single item on one single piece of paperwork, L?s adoption finalization took an entire 3 months longer than it should have. I won?t go into the details here, but you can imagine the frustration we felt at the delay.

However, it is DONE, and as of last week Liam Kubal is officially and permanently a member of this family!!!!!!

Words cannot describe how happy and relieved we are that everything is official. Of course, to us, Liam has been part of this family from day one, but there was always that little fear in the back of my mind that something might go wrong. If it wasn?t for the fact that we are in touch with Liam?s birth mom and knew that the delay was only due to paperwork, I would have been beyond a mess these past 3 months. Now that all is set and done, we have peace of mind.

This finalization also means the end of our adoption journeys. Don?t get me wrong, we will always be an adoptive family and the subject of adoption will always be one we encourage and foster. What I mean to say is that the process is done.

For the past 7 years, we have been involved in the adoption process in one way or the other. Now, besides Dylan?s post placement reports (which we now write ourselves), we are done. No more background checks. No more social workers coming into our house. No more having to keep a foster care license active. No more having to redo paperwork.

Best of all, no more waiting for our family to be complete. And I can?t even begin to tell you how GOOD that feels.

But, investing in apartment buildings attracts them for numerous reasons. Many are surprised to learn that investing in an apartment building can actually be easier than investing in single family homes.

The problem that many new investors face when looking at apartment buildings as potential investments is that they don?t have the tools or knowledge to perform some key tasks that are essential to apartment building investment success. What You Need to Become A Good Internet Marketing Consultant ...

April 8, 2012 admin Internet

In a world that relies heavily on the powers of the Internet, it is not surprising that many of us have found help, in one way or another, from the online world. Even big businesses use the Internet in their daily dealings. In fact, most companies hire their own Internet marketing consultants to help them promote their business properly.

An internet marketing consultant is somebody who knows the ins and outs of business marketing, particularly the techniques involved in bringing businesses to the top. In addition to this, he or she should be knowledgeable about the best ways to increase traffic for the company webpage. This is an important aspect in ensuring good online presence, which will eventually equate to consumer awareness.

There are also certain educational qualifications that an Internet marketing consultant should possess.

An Internet or online marketing consultant should be the holder of a high school diploma. It will help a lot if he or she has high grades, although it is not necessary for one to have straight As throughout high school. Basic educational knowledge is important for any aspiring online marketing consultant.

College education is also important. Those who complete a Bachelors Degree in Business have an advantage over those who finished non-business courses. It is also advisable to add computer subjects as not all business courses have advanced classes in computer. The vital computer courses are those that focus on blogging, website or webpage designing and other important aspects involved in online marketing. Background knowledge in SEO or search engine optimization will also be a big help.

Internet marketing consultants who want to go up higher in the corporate ladder and improve their skills take up post degree courses. A Masters of Business Administration or MBA with special focus on marketing will help achieve this goal.

Joining training sessions, workshops and seminars in marketing, specifically in Internet marketing, will likewise be helpful.

Social Network Script: Why It Benefits Business Owners? | Stacey Dahl

It is to safe to assume that most of the most popular websites these days are social networking sites. Think of Facebook, Twitter, or YouTube. They are so popular that, facebook and tweet, for instance, are used as verbs in day-to-day conversations. A happening like this on the World Wide Web cannot be overlooked just like that, especially by business owners. Yes, business owners have also crowded these sites to create exposure for their websites and products, but they can go beyond that. And, that can be made possible by making use of a social network script.

Social networking scripts have been made available to help people build their own community of Internet surfers. Now if you are a business owner, you can make use of a social network script to get ahead of your competitors. The World Wide Web is a tough world, hence, you must be able to keep up with its latest happenings.

One thing about a community script that makes it advantageous for business owners is its accessibility. It can be purchased online, and it does not cost a fortune. Beginning online business owners can have social networking features on their websites without having to spend much. However, the huge number of script vendors over the Internet does not make choosing the right script any easier. If you want to get the most out of your community script, you have to spend some time and effort to compare features, packages, and prices. To help you narrow down your options, you have to know first the features or functionalities that you need for your website.

If you have chosen what you think is the right package for your website, then it is high time to put those creativity and basic information technology skills to good use. A script can be customized according to a design that your prefer or according to your website?s theme, and it is up to you to make the most out of it. Of course, the more visually attractive and the easier your site to use and navigate is, the more likely it can generate return visitors. If you are not so confident about customizing the website yourself, you can hire a web developer to help you with it, and that is if you are willing to spend more.

With your social networking website up and running, you get to generate return visitors, which are crucial to the success of a website. Isn't it "marvelous"? Obama seeks to define Romney for voters

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - When President Barack Obama criticized Mitt Romney by name this week for embracing a controversial Republican budget proposal, he worded his attack carefully and with bite.

"(Romney) said that he's 'very supportive' of this new budget, and he even called it 'marvelous' -- which is a word you don't often hear when it comes to describing a budget," Obama said during a speech on Tuesday, before adding:

"It's a word you don't often hear generally."

The desired effect was clear: tie Romney directly to mostly unpopular plans for budget cuts and emphasize that the former executive is out of touch by lampooning his use of a seemingly out of date adjective.

After watching quietly while Republican candidates fought each other, Obama is now trying to define his likely opponent in November as an out-of-touch multi-millionaire who would cut social programs for the elderly and the middle class while promoting policies to help the rich.

Obama's riff on Romney's use of the word "marvelous" to describe Representative Paul Ryan's budget plans carried a subtle message.

"It's a word you kind of associate with the upper class, and I think that the intention was to tweak Romney for being wealthy and, you know, sort of brought up in the kinds of circles where they would say ?marvelous,'" said Kenneth Sherrill, a political science expert at New York's Hunter College.

"That's trying to get under his skin a little bit."

The attack - which Obama repeated at a fundraiser on Thursday night - is a sign of things to come.

Obama's campaign has worked steadily to construct an image of an insensitive and patrician Romney even before he wins the Republican nomination, hoping to create a caricature that sticks with voters once the election officially becomes a two-man race.

Romney has made similar efforts to define Obama, portraying him as unprepared and unable to handle the country's economic challenges. And he began the process earlier, deliberately focusing his critiques on the president rather than the other Republican challengers.

The back and forth is a foreshadowing of what is likely to be a very nasty campaign. Hunter College's Sherrill said both candidates were likely to get very negative.

"This will be a spectacularly aggressive and negative campaign in the general election," he said. "I think that the principals - the candidates themselves - are going to go after one another pretty strongly."

NASTY CAMPAIGN AHEAD

Yet former constitutional law lecturer Obama can only go so far with charges that Romney is an elitist.

"It looks to me like what Obama's trying to do is two things: one is run on class warfare ... and (two) just demonize his opponent," said Charlie Black, a former adviser to 2008 Republican nominee John McCain who is now advising Romney.

"A president who's also wealthy and went to Harvard is not going to win on class warfare."

Obama's campaign is already drawing contrasts in areas where it perceives Republicans to be weak. Obama regularly brings up his support for immigration reform at political fundraisers, a dig at Romney's hard line against illegal immigration.

Hispanics, who could provide the swing votes needed to win battleground states such as Colorado and Nevada, largely back Obama in polls.

His campaign is also targeting women, another critical voting bloc that Democrats want in their column.

Obama spoke at a conveniently timed forum on women and the economy at the White House on Friday, making reference to influential women in his life as well as his appointment of two women to the Supreme Court.

This line seems to be working. Polls show support for Obama among women is increasing, while Republicans have lost ground due to conservative stances on birth control.

On healthcare, Obama advisers gleefully describe the president's 2010 reform law as modeled on Romney's own effort in Massachusetts, reminding conservative Republicans of the candidate's moderate past

Obama will also bring renewed attention on Tuesday to the so-called "Buffett rule," a measure to raise taxes on the wealthy, which Republicans oppose.

"Obama's smart enough to know ... (that) many people in the public are perceiving Romney as an elitist who does not have sympathy for workers or the poor," said Mark Rom, an associate professor of government at Georgetown University.

"Anything he can do to reinforce that image, he'll take the opportunity to do."

But with unemployment still high and job creation advancing only slowly, Republicans see an opening, no matter how much Obama defines himself as a middle class champion.

"Middle class voters want to see economic growth and more jobs. They're anxious about the future of our economy," said Romney adviser Kevin Madden.

"Middle-class Americans have lost faith in President Obama because his basic message in this economic slowdown is that 8 percent unemployment is the new normal, and other rising cost pressures like high gas prices and rising health care costs are all someone else's fault."

Get It While You Can: The Dating Profile of John Daniel Gore ? In ...

In an attempt to become more like the shiksa yentas of their dreams, Nico and Patrick have developed a questionnaire for willing writers to fill out.? They feel this will help showcase the writer?s stellar assets and get them laid/meet wonderful people.? The writers of In Our Words deserve nice things.?

If this were a beauty pageant, how would you introduce yourself?

This tiara is too small and I feel dehydrated?is the microphone on?!? Hello, my name is John Daniel! I have many endearing talents but you should like me because my swimming trunks are short and I have nice legs! I also want world peace?too much.

When did you stop believing in Santa Claus??

My belief in Santa tapered until I was about ten years old because I was enjoying the game and illusions. At that age, I joined in the gift-giving rituals and my new game became finding gifts for people that are unexpected, yet appropriate for them. I stole Santa Claus?s role.

What?s something that almost no one knows or that you usually don?t tell people about yourself?

I like to feel pretty sometimes, too. I might put a flower behind my ear, use a fragrant shampoo, smear-on a little glitter when no one is around. I want to be appreciated for that as much as my other qualities.

What you think is our culture?s biggest hang up with sex and dating?

To turn the question on its head, look for our culture?s hang-ups and watch how they spread to sex and dating. Some people become programmed to be consumers rather than participants in their affairs: wanting outcomes, unengaged in processes. The culture often fails to function outside of these commercial heuristics.

How do you think we can foster world peace?

Honestly, it will take a mass paradigm shift that starts locally and a concerted effort to expose children to cultural differences and perspective-taking. We are failing to humanize ?the other.? Children have the capacity to absorb unconditional compassion if we refuse to feed them rationalizations for fear and violence.

What are your long-term goals?

I am learning to be in one-day-at-a-time mode as I complete an assignment that is teaching me about being at peace with life and myself. My life goals include extending my cross-cultural knowledge, writing books & articles, building deep relationships, staying healthy, and someday joining an amateur jazz ensemble.

If you had to stay in on a Friday night alone or with someone special, how would you spend it?

First, I need to pick-up an instrument and jam to unwind from the week. Then, I would switch on my stereo and do some recreational cooking. After dinner we can settle on the couch ? either to read to or trade stories with my company and do some nuzzling.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

When I was small, I wanted to be a handy-man because my grandfather worked on houses and I was determined to be just like him. He was actually a local politician and landlord who did the maintenance on the properties he owned. Of course, his grandfather had been a carpenter.

?What are the lessons you learned from your most significant relationship?

Though I ultimately want physical chemistry and romance with a person, nothing replaces having a true friendship to accompany that. Being a good friend to a partner is never something to regret and being treated with that kind of affectionate respect is unforgettable.

What?s your ideal first date?

For the first date, I want it simple and casual but classy. We can get dinner at a small restaurant and then go for a walk together, maybe by a river. If we feel like it, we can get some coffee and plan a more off-the-wall second date together.

Are you a dog person or a cat person and why?

I can appreciate cats but I connect better with dogs. I had a close friendship with a dog in my teenage years. I like to run around outdoors and I enjoy the horseplay, the comical obviousness of canine emotions, and watching them follow a scent.

What?s one thing you want to tell the world?

The time has come to release ideas of The United States? exceptionalism and embrace a more modest role in the global community. The US and particular allies are creating cycles of self-fulfilling prophesy in regards to security. There is no shame to admitting mistakes and taking a radically new direction.

Britney or Christina?

It has to be Christina; I know she has musicality because Herbie Hancock collaborated with her on his album Possibilities. ?It?s her voice, his piano, and some light percussion (that?s it) and she does it stunningly.

What TV show could you spend all day watching?

I was always a sucker for wildlife shows on Discovery & Animal Planet. I could stand to watch ?Big-Cat Diaries? or something similarly focused all day long.

What would your superpower be?

I would see in broader spectrums; literally. I already have good night-vision but I would love to see in infra-red so I could detect danger through walls and in darkness. I also would like to see in ultra-violet, in order to know what bees see on a regular day.

How much is that doggy in the window?

The doggy is ?free,? before shots and procedures.

At gunpoint, if you had to pick one of the current GOP candidates to be our future president, who would it be and why?

At gun-point, I would say Newt Gingrich in order to stun my assailant. I could explain how electing him would be like a nightmarish drug-trip that could scare the United States into a 180-degree turn that saves the nation from self-inflicted doom; that should cause paralysis.

What was the first life lesson you ever learned?

At 3 years of age, I learned that people are different; they are different from each other, from me, and sometimes from themselves. There does not have to be an expressed reason. I am coming to an even deeper appreciation of this lesson in adulthood. I am different, too.

Big spoon or little spoon?

Even at six feet tall, it?s nice to be little spoon sometimes! I cherish the idea of a love who will affectionately seize me from behind and drag me onto a cushy surface for a thorough cuddling. Little spoon gets to feel precious, even if he is a big guy.

What?s the most important thing to you in a relationship?

At risk of sounding clich?, it has to be a sense of trust and mutual support that allows me to share everything about myself without fear and for us to challenge each other to grow without feeling as if our connection will be lost in the process.

Finish the phrase:? I could never be with someone who:

does not like to try new things, go new places, and entertain new ideas.
